Creating a tranquil city paradise

Garden flats in the city always command higher prices than their first floor counterparts and there is good reason for this. A garden presents a natural space in which to relax, entertain or get your hands dirty. No matter what the size of your outside space, you can create a place in which to enjoy the outdoors.

Courtyard, walled gardens present an ideal opportunity for an easy maintenance container garden. Laying gravel and or flagstones creates a functional space in which to place garden patio sets, pots and ornaments. If you like to entertain, leave a corner plot for a BBQ to host some balmy summer parties and show off your culinary skills. Lights – either solar or decorative chains can also prove a useful and stylish draw for extending your home into your garden. Container gardens don’t have to be limited to flowers and shrubs, you can create herb pots for when you need some added seasoning in your well-crafted dishes.

Even balconies can provide a useful space for relaxation. Using some window boxes, lanterns and drapes can add a Moroccan hideaway theme to any balcony, creating a tranquil evening space that requires little maintenance. Ecologist magazine even suggests planting vegetables in balcony window boxes, with even the smallest of spaces having a window sill for salad plants.

Plant maintenance in both styles of garden is vital. Don’t forget to water your plants on a regular basis, asking a friend or member of the family to step in if your on holiday. Whilst they are not as demanding as pets, plants still require a bit of TLC. When your plants grow bigger, you may also need to re-pot them so keep an eye on the roots.

A small amount of watering and care is no price to pay for a space away from the demands of the city. With some small touches, you can feel like you’re in the middle of the English countryside.

Butchart Gardens!  Open daily all year, so you can walk through our 22 acres of flower gardens. You’ll notice that a haven for gardeners will be offered to you and photographers and romantics. Our wonderful afternoon tea, and our fine dining options are simple to make your visit complete.

The first garden was started in 1904 by Jennie Butchart, who began to beautify the old limestone quarry that had been exploited by her husband for a cement company. Started with a few plants of peas and some roses, Sunken Gardens have become the focal point for visitors.

For over a century, the Butchart family has given so much to horticulture as entertainment, and they continue to receive around one million people each year. In 2004, Butchart Gardens were recognized as National Historic Site of Canada.

There are five major areas, parks connected by beautifully maintained lawns and paths. These areas are: the Sunken Garden, the Rose Garden, Japanese Garden, Italian Garden and the Mediterranean Garden. More than fifty gardeners working all year to keep the gardens in excellent condition. Each year about one million plants in the raised beds are used to ensure uninterrupted bloom from March to October. In the other months, visitors enjoy the plants that are colorful berries and wonderful shapes of shrubs and trees.

The Prelude to Spring

Shortly after finishing the holidays, within the broad Restaurant Blue Poppy (Blue Poppy) is turned into a spring garden. The trails lead through tropical plants, flowering cherry trees, colorful plants and spring bulbs. The scents of spring fill the air. A portion of the original residence of the Butchart family, has been converted to display in our history. Antique photos and contribute to display more than a century of Butchart family life and years of hard work. This is also the season of weddings at Butchart Gardens, which is when the happy couples can book the place for your wedding, photographs and receptions for up to sixty people.

Spring

The splendor of 250,000 plants daffodils and tulips await. This is the time when the rhododendrons, azaleas and many flowering trees begin their magnificent display. The gardens are alive with many colors and scents of spring.

Summer

A major attraction for visitors is the Rose Garden with about 250 varieties, offering their beautiful colors, shapes and sizes and delightful fragrances. The continuous planting of annual flowers will dazzle all gardens. In the main summer months, you can also enjoy entertainment in the Park concerts, and summer nights on Saturdays, you’ll enjoy one of the best fireworks in the world. Because gardens are open late at night, you can walk through the softly lit gardens and enjoy the contrasting personalities that you see during the day.

Autumn

This is the time of the begonias and dahlias, and also the time to see the sumptuous beds of perennials. The fall colors reach their glorious shades in October, when the Japanese Garden sparkles with red and gold colors.

Winter

Many Thousands of colored lights and beautiful decorations for all gardens Give us the joy of the Christmas season. Meanwhile, the ice rink Offers outdoor fun for the skaters as entertainment for Spectators. The ornaments of the 12 Days of Christmas illustrated the famous song with fantastic and beautiful Grounds Each Day. The chorus of carols over the festive sound of wind instruments Provide joy to the season.

The Butchart Gardens are located on Vancouver Island, 21 km. (14 miles) north of the city of Victoria, and 20 km. (12.5 miles) south of the ferry terminal linking Vancouver and Victoria, Swartz Bay. Our address is: 800 Benvenuto Avenue, Brentwood Bay.

They are also developed to come with other benefits, like different fragrances and more frequent blooming periods, giving the gardener more reward for the work involved. A rose and garden that compliments your home can add value to your property, and bring a touch of class to your home.

Miniature Roses – These roses can be used to brighten up not just your garden, but your home too! Plant miniature roses, like ‘Snow Magic’ in a portable pot. Allow the rose and garden to get to know one another, and once the rose is in full bloom, bring the pot into your home and bring the joys of the outdoors indoors! Spray daily, and return the pot to the garden after the pot has been in your home for a month.
Tea Roses – Tea roses are one of the most common types of rose and garden lovers will immediately recognize this particular rose, as its delicate nature and fragrant smell have made it popular with people during the last few centuries. Hybrid tea roses have been developed, as tea roses are extremely difficult to keep healthy. Again, these hybrids provide better resistance to the daily wear and tear of outdoor life, giving gardeners everywhere the chance to grow something truly remarkable in their own back yard!
Rambling Roses – Rambling roses allow you to create beautiful walls or arches of roses, adding a unique twist to a beautiful flower.
