American countries and their respective cities really are fascinating to me. Mexico City is impressive and flies big historical flags of all kinds. Like most states or world countries, Mexico also flies a national flag from commercial type and residential flagpoles. Some flags of Mexico are sized such that an aluminum flag pole is structurally to weak to deal with giant flags, hence steel poles are used.

Over the course of many years changes were made to the national banner of this beautiful country. This is not uncommon for countries that have gone through much development in terms of political system. The current tricolor shows elements that have been in existence longer than the respective fag itself. For example, the combination of three colors (hence tricolor) was adopted back in the 1800-s, soon after the Mexican declaration of independence.

Most historical flags and banners, including flags of Europe, have wonderful meaning in terms of their respective details. The same applies to Mexican flags. Interestingly, the order in which the colors green, white and red are shown will never be subject to change. Before the official adoption of the (4th or current) national flag back in the 1960-s, flag size or proportion were specified.

Mexico is a popular travel destination to many North Americans, but also Europeans, including the Dutch and Germans. Back in the day, and after New Spain declared independence from the Kingdom of Spain, it was decided that the new country would be named after its capital Mexico City. The city itself was founded hundreds of years ago, back in 1524, right on top of an ancient Aztec city.

The coat of arms is displayed on the flag of Mexico and is derived from an ancient Aztec legend. The legends explains that their gods instructed them to construct a big city where they would find an eagle on a so called “nodal” eating a serpent, which is now modern day Mexico City. The current national flag is in fact the national Mexican flag.

Even though the current national flag was adopted back in the sixties, a number of other official Mexico flags represented this country and were flown from tall and small flag poles by the government in between the country’s independence and 1968. The current flag was “confirmed” as such in 1984. Today, flags of all kinds are made available using correct proportions and colors.

Colonial Flag Specialty is the Nation’s best resource for flagpoles, banners and flags, including Mexican flags, Italian flags and more.

The Maine State Flag

Flags of all kinds, including historic and military flags are displayed from steel and aluminum flag poles throughout the United States. Interestingly, most U.S. state flags have interesting similarities, including the state Maine state flag, which has the coat of arms of the state displayed on a blue colored field, the latter combination being the similarity spoken of, a few sentences above.

Most country or international flags as well as good percentage of state flags have their respective colors designated by law. The Maine flag however has yet to receive regulatory specifics with regards to the colors of the coat of arms shown on the state flag. However, the blue color as used for the flag’s field is specified. Interestingly, the blue shade is the same as the one used on “Old Glory.”

“NAVA” is the scholarly, non-profit and volunteer organization that is committed to the pursuit of “Vexillology,” the scientific study of flags. According to an analysis held by NAVA in the past, the Maine state flag is considered one of worst designed flags in the Nation. Reasons include the ones described above, the common similarities of flag details in comparison to other state flags, which includes the blue field.

Maine has a fascinating history of being the “home” to many ship-building businesses. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, this beautiful state was home to many shipyards that manufactured wooden ships. The main function of these vessels was to transport different types of cargo and passengers overseas.

Most of those people claiming to have American ancestry are interestingly and actually of English descent. The state is also second (to New Hampshire) in the % of French Americans among states. Maine also has the largest percentage of non-Hispanic whites of any state in the nation and the highest % of current French speakers.

The Flag of Zimbabwe

Historic flags have fascinating meaning, including military flags that are displayed on behalf of world countries. One such flag in my opinion is the national flag of Zimbabwe. The flag-design features striking colors that make this flag stand in comparison to other international flags hoisted on flagpoles and such. The colors displayed are black, green, red, white and yellow.

Unlike a more traditional tricolor, the Zimbabwe flag-design features 7 horizontal bands displaying the above-mentioned colors. On the left or hoist part of the national flag, a white triangle is shown. The triangle displays the so-called Zimbabwe Bird. The horizontal stripe that is shown in the center portion of the flag is black. Going upwards, the colors of the following bands are red, yellow and green.

It is not surprising that the colors have specific meaning. For example, the color green is said to symbolize the agriculture and rural areas of the country and yellow the wealth of abundant minerals that are found in the territory. Like many other banners and flags, red symbolizes the blood that was shed during wars of the past (specifically the so called “Chimurenga”). White symbolizes peace.

Zimbabwe is located in the southern part of Africa and land-locked between 2 substantial rivers, the Limpopo and Zambezi. South Africa is borders the republic to the south and Botswana borders the territory to the southwest. Other countries that border the republic are Zambia to the northwest and the country of Mozambique to the east. Interestingly, Zimbabwe’s 3 official languages are English, Ndebele and Shona.

Many in the west and other parts of the world first think of aggression and political unrest when they first think of this beautiful country. Considered a semi-presidential republic, the country has also has a parliamentary system of government. Back in 2005 the senate was re-instated and organized. Ever since the time of independence Robert Mugabe has been the president of the republic. Unfortunately, during elections of the past allegations of so-called “vote-rigging,” and “fraud” surfaced.

Back in the day, the flag of Zimbabwe was designed by Cedric Herbert, a Flight Lieutenant of the then organized Rhodesian Air Force. His design included and includes the so-called “pan-African” colors of green, red, yellow and black. The country has a rich history historical flags. The flag has been used for purposes of display, including the use of flag poles. The use of colors on this African flag (which is available for purchase from all kinds of suppliers throughout the world) is unusually original, if you would ask me.

The National Flag of Hungary

Tricolor flags of Europe of all kinds are attached and displays from commercial and residential flagpoles throughout the world. Tricolor flags display three colors on three horizontal or vertical bands, usually equally in size. One such flag is the national flag of Hungary. This historical flag shows the colors green, white and red on three horizontal stripes, each equally sized.

The flag was adopted only a few decades ago, back in 1957. The design of the flag however, stems from the national freedom movement which peaked during the Hungarian Revolution, during the first half of the 19th century. This was not the only revolution held against the then sitting monarchy in the past. The design of the Hungary flag was based on the design of the French flag as well as the ideas that ignited the French revolution, so many years ago.

The modern displayed Hungarian flag is flown from both commercial and residential type flag poles throughout the country. The colors (red, white and green) of the flag were taken from the historic coat of arms. The tricolor came about as a result of the revolutionary events of the 1840-s. During the following years, the flag was prohibited by then ruling Austrian Emperor till 1867, when it did become legal and official. This tricolor is one of the youngest historical flags in the EU.

Interestingly, “back in the day,” from about 9 BC till the end of the fourth century, “Pannonia” was part of the mighty Roman Empire and some of Hungary’s territory in modern times. Hungary’s history is extensive. Hungary is considered one of the oldest countries in Europe.

Banners and flags for use with steel and aluminum type flag poles are subject to all kinds of elements, including wind and rain. If Hungarian flag is flown in combination with the Stars and Stripes, make sure to follow United States Flag Code specifics. The U.S. Flag Code is divided into fifty titles, with each title divided into (different) sections.

There are so many uses of the flags like parties decoration welcome signs etc. The Garden flags give a very special look to the exteriors of the home and the garden as well as used by a lot of people. One can place them very conveniently on the ground or can be hung outside ones home. When one is looking at the option of hanging them outside their home then is done so with the help of plastic sleeves by then inserting the flag into it. You can find Garden flags in different designs and color pictures; usually bright enough to stand out.

If one wishes these flags can be used in the interiors of their homes also. When these are being used in the interiors of the home a lot of people use them as wall adornments. These flags are usually found in places like near a mailbox, lawns, porches, patios, and on decks. Most of the people that make use of these flags during any sports make sure to place them back from where it was taken as mentioned above. The National flags of states or countries can be seen by us in places such as parking lots, schools, banks and other business buildings. All flags are colorful and there are so many varieties of colors and sizes that available. There are small flags that are available to be used in ones garden yard apart from the possibility of being used on vehicle and home windows. In order to keep the ones that are stuck on the windows from peeling off they are provided with suction cups.

Sometimes a garden flag will be used for announcements for a special occasion or other public events such as weddings, town picnics, new baby announcements, etc. No matter what the weather is like or what time of the year it is, you can have garden yard or event have your flags up in your yard. They are made of sturdy materials to keep them in great shape, and for water resistance. The first thing that one must do to get a garden flag that is perfect is to take the measurement of the garden where it needs to be placed. You also want to make sure that you are not placing a flag somewhere that it might burn such as over a fire place or near a barbecue pit.

The most beautiful design that a garden flag can have is a sick screening design. This process involves a heat sublimation of whatever design the artist draws. In the normal flag one makes use of the inks of the design to be imprinted on the flag cloth to give a very beautiful and native look whereas when one wants the design on both the sides of the flag then they need to make use of the appliqu work. To make the picture visible from both the sides one has to stitch up the design on to the flag. It is up to you want design you choose, and there are plenty to choose from.

Have you ever wanted to add creative elegance to your porch, garden, deck or wall? Decorative flags may be just the right ingredient for that special finishing touch. A friend of mine has a home with a tall wooden fence next to the garden path. She hung large rainbow flags from the top of the fence. The result was absolutely stunning. The sky is the limit when it comes to decorating with flags. Today designers have created flags that are beautiful works of art. There are colors, themes and sizes that will enhance any area of your home. For those of you who have an entry porch that would benefit from an uplifting splash of color a flag may be just the ticket for you. If you have a wall that is boring, then consider hanging a banner to cheer it up. It is easy to be creative when decorating with flags. Whether you choose to be flashy or understated you will find the flag fits the bill.

Flags are available in themes for the country home, the traditional home, the contemporary home, the desert home, the log home and the sea side cottage. There are even gorgeous flags that render a touch of Asian inspiration. I personally love the Native American designs that are bright and bold. For those of you who love animals, it is really a banquet of delight. You will be amazed at the fantastic designs that feature cats, dogs, horses, cows, rooster, penguins, polar bears, moose, wolves, geese, sheep, pigs and even flamingos. If you live near the ocean, you might be interested in a lighthouse flag, a boat flag or a flag that paints a picture of marine life. I know of a couple who even flew flamingo flags from the bow of their boat. So whether you are decorating a home, an office, a garden or a barn there is a flag that will meet your needs.

Are you planning a party? Consider a flag to welcome your guests. You will be happy to know that flags are available for graduations, birthdays, retirements, weddings and every holiday that we celebrate throughout the year. Flags will add a touch of cheer to any celebration.

You will find flags for every season of the years. Harvest moons, snow capped mountains, spring and sunny beaches are all common flag themes. Fall, winter, spring and summer have not been left out of the equation. Dancing leaves, daffodils, bluebirds, budding iris and colorful ladybugs are just a few of the treasures to be discovered. So you will be able to have fun all year round.

So go ahead and express yourself, be creative and have fun with flags.

Will of the Wind carries a full line of garden flags, decorative flags, holiday flags, designer banners and appliqued house flags.
