Amazon.com Product Description
Your yard has always been good to you, giving you space to play with your kids, barbecue, and even sun-bathe on those lazy summer days. But now you’re ready to bring some creative elegance and flair to your outdoor living. And you don’t want to spend a mint just to have a landscape designer or consultant tell you what you want. If you know what you want, but you just need a little help turning that vision into reality, the Better Homes and Gardens Landscaping and Deck Designer software package is just for you.

Design your new deck with Home Designer’s tools that let you visualize and design with realistic 3D models.

Better Homes and Gardens, the number one home and garden publisher, has partnered with leading software designer Chief Architect to bring you the Landscaping and Deck Designer. This program can help you transform your yard space into the landscape of your dreams, at a fraction of the cost of what a professional would charge. Using the software’s fun, intuitive, and easy-to-use tools, you’ll quickly be on the way toward becoming the envy of your neighborhood as your backyard barbecues in the sun turn into elegant moon-lit affairs on your new deck.

With the Landscaping and Deck Designer, you don’t need any design experience to plan your new landscaping, deck or patio areas. In a few easy steps, you’ll be able to take care of site planning and cost estimating. The software will give you everything you need, from conception to planning to pricing.

With a huge library of over 1,200 plants at your disposal, you won’t have to be stuck with the same old options the local home and garden shop offers. You can create beautiful landscaping with trees, shrubs, water features, and flowers of your own choosing. You can even import your digital photos and add your own custom landscaping features to your plans. To keep those plants thriving, you’ll want to install a sprinkler system. The “sprinkler designer” feature can help you lay out sprinkler zones for optimal watering. A “furniture” feature allows you to project a wide variety of backdrops, objects, images, and textures onto your designs. It’s never been easier to select the right patio furniture for your new deck or out by the swimming pool.

The software includes a library with a wide variety of backdrops, objects, images, and textures that can be used in your designs.

As you plan your new outdoor living area, the software can project 3D models of your plot and perimeter designs, giving you realistic images of what your designs will look like. A “terrain” feature can help you build fences and driveways, and the software will help you choose the best materials for the pathways you design through your gardens. You’ll even have a special “fence tool” at your finger tips that will help you to choose from several different custom fence and gate styles.

In addition to the software, you also get the latest edition of The Better Homes and Gardens New Garden book — a wonderful way to inspire and provide ideas for your outdoor living spaces. With over 600 pages of great ideas and glorious color photos of more plants and landscaping arrangements than you could ever need, this book will provide you with an endless fountain of inspiration.

In short, with the Landscaping and Deck Designer software at your fingertips, you can say good-bye to all those cookie-cutter yards that populate new developments. You can finally say hello to an outdoor living area that not only reflects your dreams and visions, but that also reflects how your outdoor area should be experienced, day in and day out, for years to come.

The Benefits Of Landscape Design

Landscape design is a pivotal part in creating a yard with good flow and functionality. Planting random plants and trees around your yard is a good way to get in over your head. Different plants have different water and sunlight requirements and they grow to different sizes. If you plant several plants close together without any idea they each get as big as a car, you’re going to have some issues.

A beautiful yard is not quite as beautiful if you do not have a comfortable way to enjoy it. Some people love having dinner in the shade while others like to stretch out and take a nap. Figure out how you want to use your space so you can incorporate plans to make it happen.

Small yards are often hard to manage due to the fact there is just not much room to incorporate all the things you want. The key to making the best of a little yard is to have items which have more than one purpose. Padded benches can be made a little wider and used for mid-afternoon naps, or a dining seat. Flower pots can hold flowers as well as vegetables or even strawberries.

Large yards can be quite fun to organize and fill up because you can fit so many different elements within them. You can section off different areas into more intimate spaces with natural hedges, flower boarders and even vine covered trellis’. Set up a patio in a corner of the yard by clearing out the lawn and adding flagstone, plant a couple of palms, add some potted plants and chairs and you have a separate little oasis.

It’s easy to incorporate fruits, vegetables and herbs in any garden regardless of space. If you have a large yard you may just want to designate a patch of land solely for food production. Large or smaller yards look great with different vegetables mixed into boarders or on terraced planter beds. If you are short on space, or want to keep it simple, grow your ingredients in pots on the patio, many varieties take well to those conditions.

Pots are not only good for vegetables, they also work great throughout the yard and patio. The pots themselves add texture and personality to the surroundings while the plants and flowers add color and depth. When placing pots, keep similar colors together so there is a nice visual flow in the space, but don’t forget to add patterns and solids.

Fences and walls can be eye sores if they’re not specially designed or made with upgraded materials. Gardening vertically is a perfect way to eliminate the fading wood facade or plain wall. Add climbing vines and hanging or potted plants to these spaces in order bring out the structural importance. Another way to add more color is by adding tall potted plants or to hang baskets from shepherds hooks.

Designing a yard can be a wonderful experience as long as you do your homework. Landscape design takes thought, preparation and maintenance in order to look good. Tossing in a few plants may end up costing you more in the long run, so make sure you understand the growing conditions in your area along with what the plants need. These few Toronto landscape designers pointers should help you get started on the yard of your dreams.

Landscaping As An Aspect Of Civilization

Nature has the edge on human beings when it comes to landscaping. When one stands on a high point gazing over the work of wind, water and time on a mountain landscape it is clear that no human being could do as well. Not even a Zen garden from Japan or expansively landscaped estate in England can equal the effortless grandeur of a natural mountain landscape or the stark austerity of a desert scene. However, where human landscapes do compete they give great satisfaction.

A beautiful man-made landscape has at least one advantage over a natural landscape. It is a manifestation of human achievement. This achievement is appreciated in the context of human beings interacting with natural elements that will forever be beyond their control.

Landscaping represent a significant human trait. Unlike other animals that are lower down on the evolutionary scale human beings use language extensively for reading and writing, and they also modify their environment significantly. Although it is true that birds build the most wonderful nests they do not evolve as fast as human beings do to the point of building nest that are different to the way than it was done before. Human being are adept at modifying their environment to suit current circumstances, as illustrated by contemporary efforts to build environmentally friendly houses out of hay bales with solar panels for collecting sunlight. Landscaping is another illustration of this trait.

A big difference between human beings and animals that are lower on the evolutionary scale is that human beings alter their environment to suit their purposes. Tigers in India are threatened with extinction because they are dependent on a habitat that they are unable to change. Human beings scramble to create conditions that will enable other species that are threatened with extinction to survive. The people who do this are motivated by aesthetic appreciation or intellectually motivated emotions. These may be regarded as being among the higher attributes of humanity. Landscaping fits in there too.

Because landscaping has such a long and distinguished history in human affairs there is no shortage information on the subject. Seminal books have recently been published or re-printed because there is keen interest in the subject.

Many online courses are available and there are also colleges and educational institutes that offer structured instruction leading to official qualifications. These may open up new avenues for people with passion and enthusiasm for beautifying places. Certainly it is highly satisfying work for this interested.

As a writer chooses a thesis and a painter a focal point for his picture so a landscaper needs a point in his space around which to create features. They may be a bank of flowers, a grove of trees or a lake. In most suburban home it may more likely be a small water feature. Whatever the space, aesthetic principles apply.

Whereas writing a novel may be a solitary exercise, making a film requires team work. The director cannot do his work without the help of actors, camera people and a host of others, and yet he takes ultimate responsibility for success or failure. So too the garden architect has to work with clients, horticulturalist and laborers. Unless he is given carte blanch the client will quite often be more difficult than anyone or anything else.

In addition to being a team work, Landscaping Thornhill has to deal with weather, the changing seasons and the endless cycle of growth and decay. If a landscaper can create a fundamental design that will accommodate constant change and be a work of art for all seasons he may well be satisfied.

Landscaping at your desktop is the name of the game in 3d Home Landscape Designer Deluxe, a package that helps you work on your yard without breaking a sweat–or risking costly mistakes. With a massive gallery of over 9,000 plants and yard features from deck chairs to playground equipment, this program gives users a chance to plan every aspect of an outdoor environment in minute detail, trying out as many different concepts as imagination and time permit.

Though 3d Home Landscape allows you to focus on the interior of a home, it puts far more energy into exterior design. Terrain modeling makes it possible to mold the land itself to any specification before features are added, with hills and even lakes adding depth to a given project. Using this feature it is possible, with practice, to closely model your own land and then to analyze its design strengths.

Once time comes to actually lay down foliage, 3d Home Landscape’s Plant Encyclopedia is there to help, carrying detailed information on maintaining every plant in a garden. Your finished designs can be previewed with an eye to how the yard will appear in all four seasons.

Like most home and garden design programs, this one will let you move through the three-dimensional model of your house and yard, viewing each creation from all angles. It is a complex program that requires patience in the learning stages. Fortunately, the user’s guide is thoughtfully written and easy to use, and there are first-rate animated tutorials available with the program that cover each new stage of the landscaping process.

And once mastered, 3d Home Landscape can help you work out every imaginable garden design, no matter how wild or daring. –Alyx DellamonicaAmazon.com Product Description

How to wind up a garden designer company

In these hard economic times business is very hard. If you are a company director looking for a bit of advice because your garden designer business is struggling, you have come to the right place. I have created many articles which try to help a director take the right steps in either closing or liquidating a business or pre-packing a sale and starting again.

Firstly if your garden designer company is insolvent you have a duty as a director to close the company and not incur any further debt, unless you can be pretty sure that you can put in place a rescue plan to turn that business around. If you can’t them you need to liquidate the company yourself or take professional advice on how best to close the business in an orderly fashion.

By far the most popular choice is to engage an insolvency practitioner to call a meeting of creditors on your behalf, prepare the statement of affairs, hold the meeting and then deal with all the procedural aspects of liquidation necessary to make sure all creditors now what is going on and how they can participate in any dividend. This is called a CVL or creditors voluntary liquidation.

There is a fee for all this and generally it will be about £5000 whoever you use around the country. There are some advertisements for liquidations at less than this but by the time all costs are accounted for, it will still come in at about the same sum.

These costs can come out of the assets of the garden designer company and indeed many businesses do have just enough assets or cash to take this final step. For many businesses, the central core of what the business does is still profitable and so often directors will want to continue to trade. This is easily possible and a sale of assets can be arranged to a new company and a lease re-assigned by a landlord, which often leaves the new company trading on in the same line of work from the same premises.

If you’ve been following the shenanigans in Copenhagen over the past couple of weeks then it’s inevitable you will have been thinking about your own carbon footprint and as a garden designer, that means thinking about the carbon footprint on clients too.

They may have set their hearts on that Indian sandstone that seems to just shimmer in the sunlight but can you (or they) really justify transporting exotic landscaping materials half-way around the world just to satisfy an aesthetic whim? Similarly, can we really justify the use of hardwoods, which take centuries to mature, when a softwood would do the same job and can be replaced in half that time?

As garden designers, we have a responsibility to make the right choices for both our clients and our own consciences. And it’s no good arguing genus loci – a design concept that refers to the very essence or spirit of a place – because actually, if you really think about it, what is Indian stone doing in a Cotswold garden or a London terraced street?

If that’s not enough to persuade you to persuade your clients to source their hard-lanscaping materials locally, then get them to think about the other, often hidden, political, social and environmental implications of imported products. How has that Indian stone been quarried or that hardwood been logged? Can you be absolutely sure child labour has played no part? What has been the impact of that process – including pollution – on an already environmentally-sensitive landscape?

More and more of us – designers and contractors both – are now making more environmentally-friendly choices when choosing our landscaping materials and that’s a trend that is only set to increase over the next decade.

Taking Landscape Design

Landscape design is actually an essential course to proper home design. Many people think that landscaping is something that can be done by just anybody but there are certain parameters that contribute to a beautifully landscaped garden or yard which can be taught in landscape design courses. Being a landscape architect means that you have studied landscaping through this course.

Five Ways to Make your Front Yard Garden NOT Boring

Does your front yard look like everyone else’s, with a smattering of flowers and little real design? If you are ready to play the role of a landscaper or hire a landscape designer to dress up the space, you need to know what to do to make your yard the focal point of the neighbourhood. With these five ideas, your front yard garden will not be boring!

1. Add Water
You may already have a backyard garden pond or water feature in your backyard space, but you can also add this to the front yard. A simple garden fountain, for instance, does not cost much, but instantly dresses up your outdoor space.

2. Utilize Rocks
A large, colourful boulder makes a landscaping design element when placed at a strategic point in your garden. You can also use stones instead of concrete to make a walking path or even to line your driveway, adding a decorative element once again. Consider lining your garden with beautiful rocks or building that retaining wall with stones rather than bricks.

3. Don’t Forget the Green
In an attempt to make their front gardens beautiful, many gardeners forget to add shrubs and other green plants. Use shrubs, herbs and trees to add continuity to your outdoor space and serve as a fresh backdrop to your gorgeous flowers.

4. Add Lighting
Whether you light the path from your front door to your driveway or add a decorative lantern to your garden to shed light on a favourite flower, lighting makes your front yard look dramatic, even after dark. Choose lights that add to the design, even when they are not on, with their decorative designs. Solar powered options make this an affordable investment that will not drain your resources.

5. Get Off the Ground
Not all plants have to be planted in the ground. Consider investing in some hanging pots or pots on a stand. This can help you add dimension and even more colour to your front yard design, which will ensure it is not boring.
