Surrounding Your Flowers With Garden Gravel
You might be surprised at the selection of garden gravel you will have. If your home and garden center does not carry a large selection, you may need to go to a gravel pit or specialty outlet for more of a choice.
Use your imagination to design fabulous walkways and shapes around your gardens using the gravel. They come in all colors, from bright white marble, to reds and greens. You will find pink granite and gray granite with black flecks. There is also pea gravel and pebbles of every color. You should be able to come up with many ideas, based on the colors you see.
Pricing will vary as much as the color, so shop around. There is also volcanic rock you might choose. These come in red and black, and they can be shiny or not.
Gravel is crushed rock, whereas pebbles are smoother. Both can be used to crush out weeds, and if you use a weed block cloth or black plastic, and cover it with the gravel or pebbles, or other rock, the weeds will suffocate and will not grow back. This will leave your gravel design in tact, without weeds growing through them.
For dry and desert landscape, gravel is used a lot in the western drier states, like Arizona and Nevada. When there is not much rain, and an irrigation system is needed, some prefer a rock garden to a lawn.
When ordering, you may be able to save a lot of money, and even order at wholesale prices for truckloads. This is if you need much of the gravel for the space you wish to cover. So, whether it is for an entire front yard, or just around the roses, garden gravel can really beautify the space you have to work with.
