If you enjoy gardening but do not have the space then container gardening may suit you. There is no denying the absolute satisfaction of having your own garden. Being able to grow all manners of greens is a gratifying experience. However, not everyone is lucky in having a garden of their own. City people for example, have to compete with restricted space, and their hectic schedules make their gardening an improbable activity.

Container gardening, as its name implies, is just growing vegetables and plants in containers. Plants for  pot gardening aren’t as difficult as their outside counterparts.  Initially, let’s think about the most famous of these pot gardening varieties – the cactus. Cactuses don’t require that much water. They don’t even need a daily prescribed amount of light. They are suitable internal plants for people on the move.

Cactuses aren’t the only types of container gardening vegetation.  In fact, many container gardeners despise cactuses as being too simple to nurture and sustain.  Part of gardening is the trial of raising healthy plants, after all, cactuses demand little to no supervision as to merit a tough experience.

You may wish to grow some herbs as part of your container gardening design. The correct containers to choose for your herb garden is simple. These pots don’t need to be large and common plastic pots will still work beautifully. You can always use ceramic containers or small terra cotta pots for a more finished look. While the kind of pot isn’t important, the drainage is. Ensure you make adequate drainage holes. Herbs don’t like to sit in water and that is the fastest way to damage or kill your plants. Placing a coffee filter in the bottom of the container prevents any soil loss through watering. Herb container gardening is not difficult especially if you use caution when watering your plants.

The best types of herbs to grow are your favorite herbs. In simple terms grow what you want to eat. For the first time herb container gardener there are some stand bys that the experts suggest. Rosemary, chives and oregano are good choices for a first attempt. They grow more slowly than other options and are relatively small in size. Basil, thyme, and sage fall into this category too.

If you would like to grow vegetables in containers, the first thing you have to determine is where you want to place your container garden. Find a place that gets about five hours of direct sunlight a day.

The next thing to decide is what types of vegetables you want to grow. That will dictate the container sizes. Any vegetable that will grow in your area will be fine using the container vegetable gardening method. A lot of success has been found growing eggplant, squash and lettuce in containers. Other success stories include beans, onions, and tomatoes. Cucumbers and pole beans can do very well too, just be sure to have the space they need since they are very vine like plants.

Container gardening is a superb option for people who have time and time again wished to produce their own vegetations but are constantly limited by the restrictions inflicted by their habitat and their lifestyle. It is gardening made easy.

Choosing perennials is another option if you want an easy to maintain, attractive container garden. These plants are hardy and can stand up to the elements due to their deep root system that annuals and other plants can’t. Perennials are an excellent flower option in creating beautiful container arrangements. Now you can create a design with your favorite choices and enjoy them for many years as there are so many container gardening ideas.
